Shannon with kids

Our services are aimed at helping children learn and grow with confidence. Specifically, we work with kids at home or in school to teach skills and practical strategies that support learning, speech, and language development.

Who We Work With

This work is for children and young adults (up to age 18) who have challenges with any area of speech, language, or learning including:

  • attention
  • memory
  • executive functioning (e.g., organization, planning)
  • study skills
  • dyslexia and/or dysgraphia
  • reading
  • writing
  • handwriting
  • spelling
  • vocabulary
  • auditory processing

Our most successful students benefit from
active family participation and a whole team approach.

What We Do Together

Each session is shaped by whatever supports your child the most. Examples include:

  1. Develop early reading-readiness strategies to build self-esteem and help prevent academic delays
  2. Teach letter/sound associations, word families, homophones, and spelling rules
  3. Create structures to support planning, organization, and follow-through with tasks at home and school
  4. Provide writing tools and strategies to help your child express what he/she knows in an organized manner
  5. Pre-teach concepts from school lesson plans to improve classroom learning confidence

How It Works

This work is most effective when you and your child commit to an early investment in consistent therapy. After an initial 90-minute session to get acquainted and set goals, 50-minute follow-up sessions are scheduled in your home or at school.

Together, we create a plan that works best for you and your child.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Learning is a family affair. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in home and school sessions as often as possible.
  • Schedule sessions when your child has the energy to focus. If your child is tired at the end of the school day, chances are he/she will not gain the full benefit from our work. A session during the school day may be most appropriate.
  • School sessions offer consistent support. Working with your child at school allows us to integrate classroom plans and therapy goals to provide a consistent base of support.
  • Summers and holidays are for learning, too. All summer and holiday sessions are scheduled in your home. We are unable to schedule home visits on the weekend.
